Situated amongst the gushing locations in Western Ghats Land and providing an enchanting view of the semi-evergreen forests grasslands, Anchuruli Waterfalls (also spelt as Anjuruli) is a surreal location definitely worth visiting. The water that comes from Erattayar River is used for the Idukki hydro-electric project. A tunnel which is 4 km long passes through Erattayar and Anchuruli carrying water to the lake. Through the tunnel is dangerous, it is a fun place to take a stroll at especially for all the adventure lovers.

Anchuruli is located in a scenic village called Kanchiyar which is in the district of Idukki. It is at an elevation of 2430 ft above sea level. Every year, quite a number of youngsters visit Anchuruli to enjoy some adventurous as well as relaxing moments with their friends. During the monsoon, the Anchuruli Tunnel becomes quite a scenic place since water gushes through it to reach the reservoir. With permission of the forest office in the village, tourists can enjoy fishing and trekking at Anchuruli.



The name ‘Anchuruli’ means five vessels. The name Anchuruli is derived from five small hills visible in water when the water level is low and these hills look like five inverted vessels. Anchuruli provides a bewitching and awesome view of nature. The awesome atmosphere with only sounds of birds, streams and waterfalls, obviously makes a true destination for everybody to relax and be away from the madding crowd and polluted cities.
