Lord Krishna got his name Parthasarathy as he played the role of Arjuna’s Charioteer in the epic Mahabharata. One can easily reach this temple to benet blessings from the Lord. The temple situated on the beautiful Pamba River is one the beautiful views of Aranmula. It is said that the idol residing in the temple is brought in a raft made out of six bamboos hence the name “Ara – Six, Mula – Bamboo” called Aranmula. The temple celebrates Lord Krishna’s birthday with great enthusiasm and fun. This is celebrated during the Malayalam month of “Chingam” during the session of Ashtami Rohini. Also, there are many different eves celebrated in the temple, also different sorts of delicious prasadams are offered to the Lord.

Valla Sadya is an important event held at the temple on the eve of Ashtami Rohini, in the Malayalam month of Chingam. It is the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the famous festivals celebrated here. The sadya is massive and includes around 60 varieties of food donated by the devotees to Lord Krishna, the presiding deity of the temple. An interesting aspect of the feast is that guests theatrically demand more food by singing in the Vanchippattu style. The legend is that in a Valla Sadya all dishes asked for must be given to the people in order to please the lord.

The procession carrying rice, provision, vegetables and other articles in a specially designed vessel, Thiruvonathoni, for the feast on the Thiruvonam day at the Sree Parthasarathy Temple is also a fabulous spectacle to behold.

This temple has golden flagstaff and has four towers over its entrances on its outer wall. The huge beautiful eastern tower is accessed through a flight of 18 steps. Descending 57 steps through the northern tower, one can reach the Pampa river. This temple is a perfect example for Kerala Temple architecture and its structure is almost similar to that of Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple.
