Attappadi Reserve Forest is a protected area comprising 249 sq.km of land covering the westernmost part of the 745 sq.km Attappady block of Mannarkkad Taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala, south India. It is a treasure of nature opening when we see the Bhavani River flowing from Northwest around the mountain crossing Attappadi village and moving towards the southeast side.  The mountains here have various rock types that can be categorized into 7 broad types.  Attappadi Reserve Forest receives a high rainfall of 4700 mm and gradually decreases to a low of 900 mm.  The Attappadi Reserve Forest is a spontaneous intermediary belt adjacent to the Silent Valley National Park to the west of this forest, was separated to become a new bhavani forest range which is also a part of the Silent Valley intermediary Zone formally approved by the Kerala Cabinet.  

Attappadi is among the biggest tribal settlements in Kerala. This hill area is famous for its worship of the mountain peak 'Malleeswaran' in the form of a massive 'Siva-linga’ and Sivarathri celebrations at the Malleswaram Temple is an extremely important event in the area. The Bhavani River plays an integral part in the celebrations as well. The area is under government protection to conserve the aesthetics of this unique place.
