Though popularly known as the Bela church the officially is registered as "Our lady of Sorrows church". The church is about more than 125 years old and has been restored keeping its value of the gothic architecture. There is a community which has strong links with the border state especially Mangalore city, and so has services in different languages.
Originally, it was a small thatched church built at Kudrepady by the migrated Konkani Catholics and for better convenience it was shifted to the present location. Dedicated to the Mother of Dolours, this Roman Catholic Church in Gothic style of Architecture was established in 1890 AD. The miraculous statue of the Mother of Sorrows was lifted to this church from Kudrepady with great solemnity. The church was later renovated in 2001.
