Kakkayam


Kakkayam is a dam site located at Koorachundu in Kozhikode, Kerala. Kakkayam is on the outskirts of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, a 7,421-hectare (18,340-acre) abode of wild animals including elephants and bisons. It has an abundant wildlife population and is also a trekking and rock climbing destination.

At a separation of 58 Kms from Kozhikode Railway Station, it is a beautiful dam and a decent cookout spot. This region has a rich untamed life populace and furthermore an incredible trekking and shake climbing goal. Kakkayam offers testing trekking and rock climbing background along the Kuttiady River. The Urakkuzhi waterfalls situated in the Urakkuzhi ghat region is an additional fascination.


This place offers amazing perspectives of the valleys with pious waterfalls. The best time to visit this place is from November to March. Hardly any immediate transports are accessible from Kozhikode.. There is a forest office at the top of the dam. You need to take permission from the Forest authorities before going ahead. Cameras are not allowed near the Dam area. It is a scenic place which offers a serene environment with a lot of recreational activities to the visitors. Near the dam location, elephants, bison and other animals can be seen roaming around. The conservation of this place comes under the forest police.
