Kava is an awesome and silent scenic spot located on the other side of the Malampuzha Dam. There are no public transport systems available to the place. Either drive through the Malampuzha - Kanjikode road and take left to Kava - Anakkal Road (after Rock Gardens), or walk straight after the end of the dam, along the catchment area. (It is too much to walk, you are warned). The waves of water will make you feel you are on a sea shore. The location would be an unforgettable delight for Nature lovers and photographers.
Kava is an ideal place for Nature Lovers and Adventures. The forest, en-route to Kava is a home for some rare species of birds and butterflies. Kava is the gateway of rains to Kerala. Tourists visit here to click the amazing pictures of the gathering dark rain clouds and experience the downpour at regular intervals.
There is a traditional belief that the Monsoon clouds for the entire Kerala originate from the tall peaks of the Western Ghats, which stand guard to Kava in Malampuzha. As per the village legend, a huge dragon - like - creature came to destroy the Earth and its full strength lay in its tail. Then the prince, strong as Hercules and courageous as Odysseus, attacked the dragon and slashed its tail with his sword. Locals believe that the tallest peak of the Western Ghats in Kava is the severed tail.
