Marmala Waterfalls

Located at a distance of a few kms from Erattupetta in Kottayam inside a private rubber estate, Marmala Waterfalls are popularly known as the ‘enchantress of the jungle’. Plummeting from a height of 200 feet, the unblemished clear waters create an aura of mist around them. The tantalising waterfalls splash into a 12 feet pond and run down to join the river Teekoy. Replete with timber trees on the green carpeted mountains, the clear cascading waters offer a sight like no other. Slightly veiled amidst thick bushes and blue hills, the location can only be reached by a short trek on the hillside.
Though not much popular, Marmala Waterfalls offers a really attractive and pleasing view to the beholders, the tourists. It remains a good spot for Trekking as well. However, unlike other spots, trekking remains a necessity for the tourists to reach the site as the road is too hard for the vehicles – no car will go through this way and the jeep would go almost 2 km close to this spot. This waterfall is about 60 metres in height and it’s falling into a 12-meter deep pool. Marmala waterfalls join the River Teekoy way down.
You do not have to take a look at the calendar to decide for the visit. Throughout the year, you can pay a visit to this alluring waterfall. Although, if you want to capture the true beauty of this waterfall, plan a visit during monsoons because rains add more charm to the beauty of Marmala Waterfalls, do not forget to wear your raincoat.

One has to walk at least two kilometers to reach the spot. Despite all the trouble, once you reach there, you will be taken over by the grandeur. The falls come to life during monsoons and how! The sound of the falling waters drowns out the visitors' noise and the splashes cover you in minute droplets and make the atmosphere misty. For sure, that trekking is really worth undergoing for anyone who loves Nature’s non-polluted charm.
