The Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary is blessed with many picnic spots along with a plethora of boating options. The highest point here is the 923 m high Ponmudi which offers an excellent view of the underlying valley. There are more than 50 different kinds of orchids, exotic medicinal plants, teak and rosewood here. One can see over 25 species of mammals including the leopard, tiger, Sambar, deer, Spotted Deer, Indian Bison and Asian Elephant. More than 100 species of birds and several species of snakes and lizards are also found here.
The dam has a large catchment area of about 3200 acres. There is a nice botanical garden with cascading fountains near the dam which is an added attraction to the visitors. The dam was constructed to fulfill the drinking water needs of the population of Thrissur town. It also serves as an irrigation dam to villages around Thrissur.
Boating facility is available in the reservoir. The park is bounded by The Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary.vThe place is an ideal family vacation spot suitable for regular evening stroll. Tourists can visit Peechi Dam throughout the year. This dam never fails to lure tourists with its beautiful surroundings.Thus, it becomes one of the most visited spots in the district. There are enough food stalls in the area.
