Conolly

Teak plantations were created in the Nilambur area during the 1840’s and the subsequent decades to supply wood to ship building yards in Britain. Henry Connolly, the Malabar district Collector of those days, took an active interest in creating this plot. Hence the place is named after him. The forest department of Kerala has taken good measures to protect the natural habitat of Conolly's plot. Here you can find rare species of trees, plants, insects, birds, etc. One of the major attractions in the plot is the oldest teak known as Kannimari, it also hosts the remainings of Chathu Menon in its teak gardens.

The teak Museum at Nilambur chronicles the history of the tree and explores its scientific and artistic uses. The oldest teak tree, Kannimari, is a rare attraction at the Connolly Plot. The plot extends across 2.31 hectares beside the Chaliyar River at Aruvakode, where a country boat ferries visitors across.
