The peak is famous among trekkers for providing an excellent one-day trekking experience which takes about three hours. On one's way to the peak, they are confronted with another gift of nature in the form of a heart-shaped Lake which is believed to have never dried up and is a major tourist attraction here. The peak can be reached by foot from Meppady. The view of the Banasura Sagar Dam is also mesmerising. The large dam stands out in the green blanket and appears to be a shiny silver metal disk sitting between the trees.
It will take at least three hours to reach the top point of Chembra peak. On the way to this peak, you can see a heart-shaped lake, which is said to have never dried up. It is one of the topmost attractions of this peak. This lake is known as 'hridaya thadakam'. The actual trek starts from the watchtower at the foot hill of Chembra Peak which is about 7 km from Meppadi. The trek entry point can be reached by private vehicles (jeeps) from Meppadi town. Visitors can get the permission from the entry gate itself. The peak is about 4 km one way and takes about 2 hours to trek (one way). A forest guide will be provided for each group near the entry point. Camping is not allowed on the peak.
Best time to trek the Chembra Peak is during the post monsoon time of November to February. Monsoon period should be avoided as the path to the peak can get very slippery and reaching the top, as well as the descent, might be difficult.
