Parambikulam Tiger Reserve

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (formerly known as Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary) is a well protected ecological portion in the Nelliampathy – Anamalai landscape of the Southern Western Ghats in India. It is one of the biodiversity hot spots in the world that supports diverse habitat types and endemicity.

Considering its biological richness, abundance of wildlife and landscape beauty, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is one of the most attractive places in the entire stretch of Western Ghats. Parambikulam was declared as Tiger Reserve during 2009 with a total area of 643.66 SqKm, which includes core area of 390.89 and 252.77 Sq Km Buffer area.


The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is the most protected ecological terrain of the Western Ghats. Endowed with peninsular vegetation and wildlife, this destination has minimum human interference. So in an utmost serene environment, you can connect with nature in a better way. It has a fantastic mix of flora and fauna. Some of the most prized animals found here include lion-tailed macaques, Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, wild boars, sloths, king cobra, Travancore kukri snake, and the Western Ghats flying lizard among others. Flora includes teak, sandalwood, neem and rosewood trees. This destination makes up for an interesting lesson in biodiversity.
Post monsoon is the best time to visit Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. Tourism in this wildlife reserve begins from August and continues till January. The temperature starts falling and is accompanied by a clear atmosphere that highly favours wildlife spotting and other activities in Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.
